Paddy McCarthy increased Bay Rovers lead after 10 minutes firing in from just outside the penalty area and Donal Casey made it 3 - 0 after 15 minutes following good work by Shane Delaney. Leeside stuck to their task and pulled themselves back into the game shortly before half time to make the score 3 - 1 at the interval.
Bay Rovers took command of the game in the 2nd half with a fine shot by Brian Regan from just inside the penalty area on 40 mins making it 4 -1 and he then turned provider setting up Connor Ellis on 42mins who made it 5 - 1 at the far post. On 45 minutes Donal Casey scored the goal of the game, showing some excellent footwork to twist and turn his way into the area before making it 6 -1 with a fine finish. In the 50th minute, Connor Ellis got the better of the Leeside full back and his cross was turned into the net for an own goal which completed the scoring. In the 14th minute a Philip Clifford free from 22 yards was well saved by Micheal Cronin the Gunners goalkeeper. After this the Gunners enjoyed a lot of possession without threatening the Rovers goal. The second half didn’t provided much exciting play either with both teams cancelling each other out. In the 77th minute a long ball into the corner was chased by Shane Drummey and with no support he took it on himself. After passing 3 defenders he slotted the ball into the corner to secure the 3 points for Rovers.

WHEN THE RAIN STOPPED FROST TOOK OVER

After all the rain we had we now have to deal with heavy frost.

Last Saturday table topping Bay Rovers U-12 team overcame very difficult icy conditions on a hard playing surface to pick up all three points and maintain their 100% league record. Despite falling behind on 15 minutes Rovers slowly started to find their feet and Connor Ellis managed to beat the advancing Drinagh keeper following a Nicholas O'Sullivan through ball to equalize on 25mins. Shortly afterwards Jamie McSweeney headed in a Shane McCarthy corner to make the scoreline 2 - 1 at half time. Bay continued to press a packed Drinagh defence and on 38 mins Connor Ellis grabbed a 2nd goal after good work by Jamie McSweeney to open up a two goal lead, before picking up a Russel Barry pass to round the keeper and complete his hat-trick on 45mins.
The game was played in conditions that made football very difficult and the after a lacklustre start the team ran out deserved winners. Man of the match was Connor Ellis. The Junior game on Sunday was called off following a pitch inspection. After the heavy frost over Saturday night the pitch was frozen solid. This leaves the junior team with another game to catch up on. They will travel to Macroom on St Stephens day to play Droumree in a crucial league match before playing Rosscarberry at home on Monday the 28th.

JUNIORS BEAT ROSSCARBERRY

The Junior team picked up a good 3 points when they beat second placed Rosscarberry in Kealkill. Rovers started well and were 2-0 up at half time after goals by Shane Drummey and Kieran Hourihane. They continued in the second half when Shane Drummey made it 3-0 in the 55th minute. Rovers sat back after this and when Rosscarberry had a man sent off shortly after it looked like the match was over as a contest. Rosscarberry though had different ideas and changed their team around to start putting Rovers under pressure. They pulled a goal back to make it 3-1. Rovers looked dangerous on the break but lack of match fitness nearly cost them as Rosscarberry pulled another goal back in injury time. Ross pilled on the pressure in the time added on but the Rovers defence held firm to close the gap on the leaders with plenty of games in hand.

Connor Ellis cross to the back post was controlled by Nicholas O'Sullivan who side stepped the defender before unleashing a powerful shot into the far corner on 25 mins.
Despite Dunmanway's best efforts they could not find a way back into the game, although Michael Casey was forced to pull off a couple of vital saves to maintain the lead, before Bay Rovers completed the games scoring on 45 mins. An excellent free kick to the far post by Jamie McSweeney was met by Aillil Brosnan whose deflected header left the home keeper stranded.
In what was an excellent team performance with every player playing a vital part in the win, Paddy O'Shea was named Man of the Match for his tireless work in midfield.

On Sunday the Rovers Junior team travelled to Clonakilty for an important league fixture. Despite missing some players due to GAA Rovers still put out a strong team. Clonakilty scored with a long range shot in the first minute. Rovers started to get into the game and created some chances. Despite this the half time score remained 1-0 to Clonakilty. Rovers started to put Clon under a lot of pressure from the start of the second half. Finally in the 60th minute Shaun O’Sullivan played a ball to Brian O’Sullivan who slotted the ball into the Clon net. Shaun had a good match and in the 71st minute crossed a perfect pass in for Shane Drummey who headed Rovers into the lead. Rovers went 3-1 up when Paul Drummey’s defence splitting pass found the impressive Greame O’Leary who didn’t miss the target. This win sees Rovers back in the hunt for promotion.
